I bought a quilt top years now, and before I work with her, she will need to be cleaned. It has a small hole in one of the boxes, and I added two small segments to be strengthened, but otherwise it seems to be intact. (Parts are stictched hand, but they are pretty tight.) What is the best way to clean without doing damage?
Brush the open seams closed and a bandage over watering holes. Take it to a laundromat and put in a triple burden - machine on the gentlest cycle. Use soap Orvis, available at sewing supply stores. As you leave the machine, do not let not hang. Take It Home and dry flat on a clean sheet in a room with air circulation good. After it is dry, you will have a better idea color you want for your repairs ..
