Cleaning BEHIND the Soap-Dispenser in washing machine?

I noticed that since the water authorities replaced my pipe, I had to clean the soap dispenser of my machine more often! Anyway, I cleaned up over the wkend and was horrified to see all this GUNGE black behind! I think it is also in the machine, cos sometimes I see little Black deposits on clothing. Is there a safe way to eliminate GUNGE "without it entering the machine itself? Thx!

Run the machine empty on the hottest wash that will with washing soda or, believe it or not, the vinegar in the dispenser. It helps to search with a bottle brush or similar first to begin to dislodge the dirt. Then the search filter and clean it thoroughly. You may want to do this more than once. There are probably filters on the hoses as water, cleaning these Out. You can buy products that do the same, but they work no better.
