I have a potted plant that is located in one these typical terracotta pots that you can buy anywhere. Anyway, the bottom inch or if the pot has become a strange color. I water my plants once a week (the recommended amount for this type of facility), and it has a shelf that runs into the makeup water. What I made a mistake? I'm pretty clueless about plants, it would really appreciate any feedback. Thank you!
There is no need to worry all. My clay pots do it often, and eventually they get really icky crunchiness with white on them. It is simply a side effect of the clay soaking in calcium and other minerals in the water and / or soil. So if I have a plant in a clay pot, I rub the accumulated once per year when I repot my plants. (You will need an SOS pad to do it, because it is difficult to get). Lately I've been buying clay Glazed pots that were it not happen. I also use plastic, but I prefer the natural clay. I was told as regular clay pots are actually bad for the plant because they alienate the vitamins and minerals from the water and absorb ... just examination.
