How can I find information about the artist marks, carved into the bottom of the Italian language (ancient) marble flashlight?

Is a book which shows the available brands or artist signatures and how do you determine if the lamp is made of marble or ivory. The marking on the bottom of the lamp is N 619 Italy or N GI9 Italy. The lamp was ReWire and a brass base has been added however that rewiring occurred when cloth was also used to isolate outside the wire. Originally there was a hole in the marble base if I feel this piece is very, very old. The marble seems to be hand-engraved with a design very simple and looks like an urn-shaped "tube that I saw in old catalogs, but none of these "Urn-shaped lamps are made of marble or ivory. The material is certainly not a mold, such as cutting marks can be seen on the back of the room. In addition to the lamp parts are glued together, the base and two parts form above.

An antique dealer / appraiser may be able to help. There are certainly books on the identification marks makers. I used to work in a library and we have had one in the reference section. It may not have dark makers, though. Marble will feel colder in your hand than ivory. If you try scraping the bottom was a bright (icepick / AWL), marble dust disappear come or not scratch easily if it is a harder variety. Ivory may just be scratching easily, or take off like a bar of soap is hard. If you can see the marks of cutting, it is probably not marble.
